The Situation
We were retained by the CEO of a FTSE250 who had concerns around the faltering relationship between him and one of his Group MD’s. In addition, there was the impact on the share price and company value if this situation led to executive failure.
Desired Outcome
The necessity for the MD to build relationships with his peers on the Group Management Board as well as with the CEO.
To lead and motivate his team to open up new opportunities through the current challenging environment.
Build the necessary relationships in the external business community that were critical to the vision and objectives of the organisation.
Keep confidence with the Board?
The Solution
The CEO and the Board decided to invest in this very experienced and technically strong individual to identify if it was possible to improve on what they had to minimise business disruption at a fraction of the cost of replacing him. As a result the company authorised a 12 month Executive Coaching Contract between the MD and FMC Limited.
Result
Nine months later conflict between the CEO and MD had been successfully replaced with healthy and challenging debate; internal politics were reduced and the MD communicating effectively and building strong interpersonal relationships across the whole group and the wider business community. Together he and the CEO increased the organisations ability to deliver expectations of the Chairman, the City and the shareholders. The success of this coaching intervention is acknowledged to have not only protected the company from considerable termination costs but also created significant shareholder value for this company.
